(04/02/2020) The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), the electricity sector regulator asked the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to submit a report on the interruption of electricity supply that occurred yesterday without prior approval of the PUCSL.

The action was taken following inquires and complaints of consumers received by PUCSL yesterday (03/02/2020) in the areas of Wattala, Ja-Ela, Kandana, Kelaniya, Maharagama, Boralasgamuwa, Nugegoda, Mirihana and Hikkaduwa, complaining that there were sudden power failures for a duration of two or two and half hours.

The CEB must obtain the prior approval of the PUCSL for every scheduled interruption of electricity supply as per section 10 of the Condition 30 of the Electricity Transmission and Bulk Supply License issued by the PUCSL other than the interruptions necessary due to maintenance which CEB gives prior notice to the public.
