The Guideline describes procedures the Distributing licensee should follow to disconnect and reconnect electricity supply.

The distribution licensees, “Ceylon Electricity Board” and “Lanka Electricity Company (Private) Limited” have indicated the modes of payment and described various institutions authorized by them to accept electricity bill payments from consumers in their Supply Services Codes.

In terms of Section 28 of Electricity Act No. 20 of 2009 a Distribution Licensee may require by notice in writing any person who requires a connection and supply of electricity, to provide reasonable security for the payment of all money which may become due to the licensee. For these deposits the licensee should pay an interest to the consumer. Guideline describes the procedures how the process is carried out.

A tariff customer may terminate his/her tariff agreement of the electricity supply provided to his/her premises and allow another consumer to obtain electricity supply to the same premises upon fulfillment of the requirements specified by the service provider.
