The regulation of the water service industry is to be assigned to the Commission under Act, No. 35 of 2002.  The water service industry comprises of the provision of pipe borne water supply from a public water supply system in any urban or rural area including the provision of water through water bowser and also includes public sewerage services, but excludes irrigated water and bottled water. Towards this end, the Ministry of Water Service & Drainage has drafted necessary amendments to the National Water Supply & Drainage Board Act, No. 02 of 1974 to enable the Commission to function as economic, technical and safety regulator in the water supply and sanitation industry.
