PUCSL to strengthen its activities to uplift the electricity sector in line with international standards

(03-09-2016) – The Staff of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) presented its result based activates for the year 2017 to the top management today (03, Nov) to further strengthen the regulations, rules and methodologies in electricity in Sri Lanka.
The event held at Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA) where 60 activities were presented to the management under main thrust areas of affordability, quality of electricity, safety and conservation.
The activities plan to enhance efficiency, effectiveness and the quality of the services provided by the service providers in line with government policies, world trends and consumer beneficial manner.
The PUCSL further discussed methods to end or put a halt to electricity blackout by identifying the possibilities beforehand which can be executed by licensees.
Also, preparatory activities related to regulation of petroleum sector were presented and discussed as PUCSL needs to ensure the regulations of the sector to be kicked off immediately once the petroleum acts are passed by the parliament. The preparatory activities include drafting license templates, rules and regulations related to licencing etc.

PUCSL’s activities for 2017 were developed in compliance with the government recommended result based framework. Once the activities proposed are approved by the Commission, the staff plans to commence the activities as per the timeline identified.
